Beyond working hours
Recently, I was with one of my closest relatives, who works for a renowned start-up company in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India.
My visit to her was just days after the CEO of L&T gave the infamous advice that the time limit for how long one can stare at his wife and work on Sundays should be permitted.
Earlier, I used to think of “me-time” as a little break from my busy schedule. It’s not that I want to neglect my responsibilities; Rather, I believe I deserve a nice break from my normal routine. I’m not asking for much.
Spending quality time with near and dear ones rejuvenates our minds, refreshes our souls, and eases work-related stress.
There is more in the box of our lives than just being involved in earning.
Our lives encompass much more than simply prioritizing the pursuit of financial gain. While earning a living is undoubtedly important, we must also recognize the value of relationships, personal growth, experiences, and community contributions. These aspects enrich our lives and provide a sense of fulfillment beyond financial rewards.

All Works And No Play
“Spending all your time focused on work without allowing yourself the opportunity to relax and enjoy leisure activities can result in fatigue, decreased creativity, and a lack of fulfillment in life.”
Here is an old saying,” All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.”
- And who likes a dull person?
- Who finds pleasure in the company of someone who lacks excitement or charm?
- Who enjoys being around a boring person?
This is how I pictured it when I first heard this saying as a child.
So here is another question, “How can a person live peacefully with so much work to do and nothing like a pause for leisure or rest?”
Everyone knows that the human body requires a balanced diet to lead a physically well-balanced life, and we have to work to earn it, but what about a mentally well-balanced life?
We need to pause for a while after working continuously for hours.
We need some free time to spend with ourselves. By ‘we’, I mean our family, close relatives, and friends. We are here as a social entity, and only by cooperating can we strive to excel in all our efforts to make this earth a more liveable place.
Vacation and Finance
Tourism is a crucial pillar of a country’s economy, significantly contributing to its financial stability and growth. However, it raises an important question: if the citizens of a nation do not actively engage with and explore their tourism destinations, to what extent can the country rely on foreign visitors to sustain its tourism sector?
Encouraging residents to participate in tourism activities boosts the economy and fosters a sense of pride and appreciation for their cultural heritage and natural landscapes. Therefore, promoting domestic tourism is essential for a balanced and resilient tourism strategy.
For this, people must have enough time, and resources to spend on their holidays.
This is where the discussion of working overtime should conclude.
This is where the debate regarding appropriate wage increases starts because purchasing power is a key indicator of any nation’s prosperity.
In 2023, as per the World Travel & Tourism Council, the travel and tourism sector contributed 9.1% to the global GDP.
This data clearly illustrates the recovery from the setbacks caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, which severely impacted the global economy.
By analyzing various metrics such as tourism revenue, employment levels in leisure sectors, and overall consumer spending, it becomes evident that vacations contribute to job creation and stimulate local economies. When people take time off to travel or engage in leisure activities, they boost demand for goods and services, which drives economic growth and stability.
Health is wealth, isn’t it true?
I don’t know when we postulated the saying “Health is wealth” but I know that it is one of the necessities of everyone.
Health is the foundation of life. It includes mental, physical, financial, and social well-being. We can achieve true health only when we feel comfortable and at peace with our surroundings.
This world is our workplace, and sometimes it can be difficult to take every step alone. Our responsibilities towards ourselves are important and how can we as a social unit forget this?
Work is worship and life is a blessing.
Work-life balance refers to a well-balanced bridge with two ends relying on each other i.e., personal life and professional obligations balancing with each other, managing and maintaining overall well-being, reducing stress, and ensuring productivity.
It revolves around our work responsibilities and personal time, prioritizing goals, and making time for relaxation and leisure activities.
To improve work-life balance, consider implementing flexible work hours, practicing effective time management, and prioritizing quality time with family and friends.
It’s important to recognize the signs of imbalance and take proactive steps to restore harmony between work and personal life.
It’s important to recognize the value of investing time in relationships with family, friends, and close relatives.
Robust relationships provide essential support during joyous and challenging moments, reinforcing our connection to a solid foundation. These connections foster a harmonious work-life balance and enhance productivity, creating a more fulfilling and effective environment.
Vitamin Rest
We need vitamins to complement our nutrition plate and vitamin rest to complement our wholesome developmental plate. It increases our work value and enhances our capabilities, making us more humane and genuine.
