Gandhi: An Ode on Martyr Day
This is how we shouldn’t celebrate Gandhi,
Gandhi, synonymous with morality
The high-adrenaline struggle of
Indian Independence, her sovereignty
We, the people, are living a dream
Of freedom, freedom forever
From all the intrusions
That we got after a seemingly
Unending fight, drenching
All our patients, and resources.
Here come the tributes after
So many years of free air
With no remorse on their face
Our revered politicians,
Respected lawmakers
Giving us the same vibes
That we were once fighting against
The vibes of illegitimate intruders
The sense of being robbed of
Our constitutional rights
The scene is more grim
Grimmer on all the side
The violence, the fallacy,
The enmity with own folks,
The super-powered, influential ones
Taking away all our resources
Without second thought,
And we are now marred with
Uncalled uncertainty about our future
It’s all of us suffering.
But, who cares now?
The one we chose for our aspirations
Is too busy to attend to our wounds
We are left alone again
No alignment this time
For we are now deprived people
Our ambitions, as common people
We are now counted as ‘Cattle Class’
The chosen people are enjoying
All the power, unlimited, unhindered
And unobstructed.
Siphoning away the resources
Of the nation, and no one is
Responsible for this plunder.
The deeper I try to put
All the bits of the Jig-saw puzzle
To find the reasons for our downfall
The deeper I felt an inexplicable illusion.
Moving over from Gandhi,
We are now disrespecting
Millions of sacrifices that
Our forefathers did to ensure
Precious freedom to us.
We all are now at the receiving end
Finding meanings of the sovereignty
And disrobing the same from the nation.
This is how we shouldn’t commemorate
Any of our martyr Day.
